Graham

The kiss she laid on him scorched him from his head to his socks, tempted him to turn around and carry her right back into the infirmary for a repeat of the night before.

Except . . . she was hungry.

And it was his job to care for her.

He tore his lips away, rested his forehead against hers, breath coming in rapid gusts, even as he tried to find some thread of control. Which wasn’t fucking easy, not with his cock throbbing and her desire blazing across the bond.

Luckily, the fates seemed to be on his side.

At least marginally.

Her stomach growled again, even louder, and he found that the need to protect and care for Suz was stronger than his aching erection. Or maybe just his blue balls. Because he didn’t think his cock was going to be changing its state anytime in the near future.

He set her on her feet.

Her eyes flashed to him. “Wh—”

“Food,” he grunted, taking her hand.

“I’m not hungry for food,” she said, sidling up to him. “I think . . . I know I want something else.”

“You’re going to wither away to nothing.”

She patted her waist. “I’m certainly not going to wither away, not with these hips.”

Considering he’d had his hands spanning them the night before, caressing those lush curves, he took exception to her disparaging one of his favorite body parts. But she was hungry, and he needed to make sure she was fed and rested and didn’t want for anything. Because she was good and smart and his, and she shouldn’t want for anything and—

“Now you’ve got the spinning tornado of thoughts,” she murmured, tapping his temple. “That’s usually my job.”

“Food,” he grunted, tugging her forward.

“I’m not hungry.”

“Liar.”

She chuckled, and it slid over his skin like warm honey. “Okay, I am hungry,” she muttered. “Just not for food.”

Silence.

Then they both burst out laughing.

Her head dropped to his shoulder. “It’s the bond’s fault.”

“That you want me?”

She scowled up at him. “No. That I’m willing to choose sex over food.”

He grinned.

“And it’s not because you’re so good.” Another scowl, this time paired with her smacking him lightly on the chest. “So, don’t get a big head about it.” Another smack when he snorted. “It’s just . . . it had just been a while, okay?”

“I’m not saying a word.”

“You learn fast.”

“Just because I’ve been single for a long time doesn’t mean I’ve never had a girlfriend,” he said. “I know when to shut my mouth.”

“But do you?”

He grinned. “Occasionally.”

She snorted. “So, no sex?”

“Food, Firefly.”

A huff.

“Then sex.”

“Yeah?”

“But only if you’re good.”

Her brows lifted, her lips curved into a smirk. “How will I be good? Do I need to clean my plate?”

“That.” He grinned down at her. “And other things.”

“Hmm. What other things?”

Graham slowed to a stop and leaned closer, shifting until her chest was pressed to his, those soft breasts against him the best feeling ever. “You need . . .” His tongue flicked out, grazed her earlobe. “To do the dishes, too.”

She’d melted at the touch of his tongue.
